CANVEY ISLAND SWIMMERS TAKE TO THE HIGH STREET TO FIND NEW RECRUITS
With their vivid lime green coloured club t-shirts, youngsters from Canvey Island Swimming Club certainly brightened up Canvey Town Centre on Saturday morning. The swimmers distributed hundreds of leaflets to shoppers encouraging people to join the successful Canvey Club. As well as talking to potential new swimmers the children also dropped into many of the Islands shops to ask local businesses if they were willing to sponsor the club or help out financially with their forthcoming swimming galas. The club is run upon a ’not for profit’ basis and relies solely upon donations and parents goodwill in order to continue operating from their Waterside Farm Sports Centre home. Organiser Lee Jones said “We live in an Island community surrounded by water and I feel reassured by the fact that my children are strong swimmers. The club operate a swimming improvement scheme for beginners right the way through to competitive swimming at local, regional and National level” “Not only does the club offer the opportunity to keep fit and swim, it also provides the children with a fantastic social life as well. Come along and try it!” Canvey Island Swimming Club can be contacted on 079801 75295
